Anagram Solver

Type a word or a set of letters and see every word that uses all of them exactly once, with a meaning beside the common ones. It runs in your browser on the public domain ENABLE word list (172,823 words). Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

LearnWordly is independent and is not affiliated with Hasbro, Mattel or Scrabble.

Use ? for a blank tile (up to 3). Between 2 and 20 letters. Every letter is used, so there are no filters on this page.

This solver is exact: it only returns words that use all of your letters. For shorter words from the same letters, use the Word Unscrambler.

Your anagrams will appear here.

How the Anagram Solver works

An anagram is a rearrangement: same letters, same count of each, different order. The solver uses that directly. It sorts your letters into alphabetical order, which word players call a signature, and compares it with the signature of every word of the same length in the list. Words whose signatures match are your anagrams. Nothing shorter can appear, because a shorter word would leave letters unused, and nothing longer can appear either.

That is also the difference between this page and the Word Unscrambler. The Unscrambler accepts any word your letters can cover, including short ones, which is what you want from a game rack. This page is stricter, and it is the right tool when you already have a word or a full rack and want to know what else it spells. It is also why this page has no Starts with or Contains boxes: a filter would break the one rule the page exists for.

A blank tile loosens the signature in one controlled way. The solver then tests the words of your length whose letters can be covered by your real letters plus the blanks, and a letter a blank covers scores zero. Everything still happens on your device. Only one list file is downloaded, the file for the length you typed.

A worked example: TRIANGLE

The eight letters of TRIANGLE rearrange into six words in this list, and every one of them scores 9 in tile values, because they all use the same tiles:

WordTile scoreWhat it means
RELATING9Connected to something, or telling a story
TRIANGLE9A three-sided polygon
INTEGRAL9Built in and necessary, or the result of a mathematical integration
ALERTING9Warning someone of danger or a problem
ALTERING9Changing something
TANGLIER9More tangled than another thing (comparative of tangly)

Six full anagrams is a rich family for eight letters. Most words have none at all, which the next section shows with the list's own numbers.

How many words have an anagram?

Fewer than you might expect, and fewer still as words get longer. These figures were counted from this site's word list on 28 October 2026:

Word lengthWords in the listWith an anagram partnerLargest family
5 letters8,63644.4%12 words
6 letters15,23236.2%11 words
7 letters23,10927.8%9 words
8 letters28,42019.0%7 words

The largest five-letter family is built on A, E, P, R and S. It holds 12 words, including SPARE, SPEAR, PEARS, PARSE and REAPS. If your word returns nothing here, it is in the majority, and the letters are rarely wasted: the shorter words inside them are usually plentiful. The guide to solving anagrams by hand shows the method this tool automates, for the times you want to find them yourself.

Questions

What is the difference between the Anagram Solver and the Word Unscrambler?

An anagram uses every letter you type, exactly once. The Word Unscrambler also shows shorter words made from some of your letters. If you want every possibility from a rack, use the Unscrambler. If you want the words hiding inside one word, use this page.

Why did my word get no results?

Most words have no anagram. In this list, 44 out of every 100 five-letter words have at least one anagram partner, and the share falls as words get longer, to 19 in 100 at eight letters. A word with no partner is normal. Check the spelling first, and if the letters are right, the Unscrambler will show the shorter words they can still make.

How do blank tiles work in the Anagram Solver?

Type a question mark for each blank, up to three. The word found must use every tile, with each blank standing for one letter. A letter covered by a blank scores zero. With a blank in play there can be more results, because the blank is free to become whatever the word needs.

Can this solve two-word anagrams or names?

No. It finds single words from the ENABLE list only, and that list holds ordinary English words, not names of people or places. A phrase anagram needs the words split at the right point, which is a different problem, and this tool does not attempt it.

Is what I type stored or sent anywhere?

No. The solver runs in your browser. One word list file, the file for the length you typed, is downloaded from this site, and your letters never leave your device.
