Word tools that teach while they solve

LearnWordly solves the rack in front of you and shows its working. Four free tools run on one public word list of 172,823 words, and the guides below are computed from that same list, so every number on this site can be checked against its own data. No account, no download, nothing to install.

LearnWordly is independent: it is not affiliated with Scrabble, Hasbro, Mattel, the New York Times or Wordle.

The tools

Word Unscrambler

Exact anagrams only: every word that uses all your letters and nothing else, found by letter signature rather than by shuffling.

Wordle Helper

Enter your greens, yellows and greys and get the candidates that survive, duplicate letters handled the way the game handles them.

Crossword Solver

Fill a pattern with wildcards and pull every matching word from the list, with must-contain and must-not-contain filters.

How this site earns trust

One list, stated plainly. Every tool searches the ENABLE word list, a public domain list of 172,823 words. It is a large and honest list, but it is not an official tournament dictionary, and it lacks a few famous short words (there is no QI and no ZA in it). We say so on the tools themselves rather than let you find out mid-game.

Meanings from a real dictionary source. Short definitions are shown for the 9,420 words that are both common and defined in Princeton WordNet. Words outside that set are listed without a meaning rather than given an invented one.

A named person, and a checking page. LearnWordly is built and maintained by Najam Us Saqib, a software engineer, with his working partner. About says who he is and what he is not (not an English teacher), and How We Verify sets out exactly how the lists, definitions and guide numbers are produced and checked. If you find an error, Contact reaches a person, and corrections are logged on the page they fix.

Sources. The list itself is the ENABLE file, the meanings come from Princeton WordNet, and the frequency order from Peter Norvig's counts.
